So on a MUSH I am currently co/head-admin of, im also the primary webmaster when it comes to the front page of the site not including the forums. We also run PennMUSH which boasts good mysql integration.

So far in collaborated effort between a few of the admins and I, we have got stuff like the softcode MOTD function displayed on the website, and some MUSH vitals like players online, game time/date, weather, and uptime.

I am just interested in knowing if anyone else has thought of similar functions to post on their MUSH websites.

There's a number of functions that Dragolance: Age of Mortals either has, or is considering, getting involved in on the website. Currently, we have our faq and timeline code SQLized and displaying. We've had some other aspects that we simply haven't gotten done yet, but will probably eventually add. It appears you've already got a few of those (MOTD, Players, weather, etc). Other things we've considered include:

+faction information (characters in the faction, their local MOTD, what they're about)

+queue and +job manipulation capabilities.

+staff listing

The WHO listing and others. We just .. keep losing our code staff! :)

Hmm...The staff listing is definitely a good idea. Probably worth a recode. As it is now, ours is pretty much all manually edited and as such, the listings on the MUSH and the website vary quite a bit.

The only other real thing that comes to mind is 'automating' some other functions like the site FAQ, on-MUSH rules listing, etc. But too much realy makes things gaudy and, in a way, quite a bit unmanageable compared to manual edits.

Generally so far the way Ive seen it is the stuff that most deserves a website presence is stuff that changes real often such as player listing, etc. like I mentioned above.

Btw, the site is located at http://www.lyokomush.com/ if interested. All of the mush-related functions are on the front page for now.

Helpfiles, recent events and character information are generally nice... among other things. There's alot out there you can put on the webpage, it's just really a matter of how far you want to go with it. My opinion would be all the way.

Best of Luck,

Our site (http://www.dlaom.org/) uses the FAQ and timeline information in and out of game. We're considering helpfiles, news, theme etc as well, but haven't gotten to really getting to there yet. We have a lot of other code we're trying to do in game first and haven't got a full time dedicated Web/SQL coder at the moment.

Well, not really inspired by this thread, but after the fact I noticed it kind of coincided with it nicely, but just over the past few hours a co-admin and I have really done some major overhauls to mostly backend functions and a mess of softcode functions lingering all over. While at this point I think this is wanted to be kept fairly quiet until the job is COMPLETELY finished, I will say this much: Alot of this work is making extensive use of the mysql database dedicated for the MUSH itself. And most of it is for various logging purposes on the admin side of things and wont see the light of day for mortals.

I should also make a note that neither him nor I are masters at php or mysql. And for me, I will safely admit I am not a master mushcoder either. But we have been working hard at this job and have so far been doing good. Just involves lots of referring to the mysql and php manuals. =P

I'd love to see ingame mail be directed through a normal email client and server. Editing messages is a big drawback on most MUSH mail systems, and why bother keeping all that in the game DB? Provide a server that simply forwards mail at the least, or if you want to provide a POP/IMAP service, fine.
