O mundo de Devil's Bob (DeBoMUD) é um MUD brasileiro, em
português, online desde 2005. Atualmente, é um dos poucos MUDs
lusófonos disponíveis no país.
Estamos procurando novos membros para a staff, com experiência
ou não, mas essencialmente com disposição.

Coder, builder, whatever.

Interessados, enviar um e-mail para eugenio@debomud.org, para
que possamos ir conversando.

English is the language of the internet, and thus world. Good
luck with that.

I've suspected that places where English is not normally
used as a first language are places where folks might be
receptive to gaming technology that is retro to us.

I spose that sounds patronizing, but I take comfort in
knowing it is at least less patronizing than your comment.

No need to be racist. Brazil has the internet too and it even
has the latest graphical games. His Brazilian mud may be
wonderful, but the problem is the players will always be
lacking due to the fact the rest of the world plays with
English.

I don't believe I said otherwise.

Really? A new mud with a low playerbase? Huh.

Anyhoo, I think it's pretty clear there's a market for mudding in non-English, and while I don't
claim direct correlation between broadband availability and interest in retro gaming, I think it's
a fair enough hypothesis that it doesn't really merit accusations of racism.

Really? A new mud is new forever? I said the word
"always". Despite what you think, most Brazilians don't
live in the rain forest and a lot of them enjoy internet
access, some even in cafes. Some even leave their fishing
spears behind to play graphical games!

And no, there's not a market for non-English muds because
the rest of the world speaks English. It's really that
simple. It'd be best to draw from a bigger pool of
potential players. There's a reason why Zombiemud, a highly
successful mud with +100 players daily, is in English and
not their native country language, Finnish.

You're being quite silly. I posted a link demonstrating that
broadband penetration in Brazil is less than that of the US.
Your suggestion that this equates to regarding Brazil with
the stereotypes you brought up is risible.

As to your argument scoffing at non-English muds, I guess
all that's needed to refute it is a single mud in another
language. Since they exist, I'm not sure you've a leg
to stand on.

It seems you enjoy trolling here, but wouldn't it be better
if you trolled with non-foolish positions?

Speaking on behalf of the fact that 99% of muds are English
for a reason, no I wouldn't say that's foolish. Your
broadband link has no relevancy. You only need dialup to mud
and countries without broadband in the home have internet
cafes or other means.

You only need dialup to mud

Precisely my point.

Your point being that the 5 billion other people in the world
with dialup won't be able to play the game? Thank you for
agreeing.

There are more people without broadband, than with.

There are more people who don't speak English, than do.

You only need dialup to mud.

I think it is perfectly reasonable to suppose there may be a market for a non-English mud.

I'm not sure how much more clearly I can spell this out for you.

That's true, but internet surfers still overwhelmingly speak
English. It's required in most foreign schools. I'm not sure
how much more clearly I can spell this out for you.

3. Spanish (300 million)
4. Hindi/Urdu (250 million)
> 5. Portuguese (220 million)
6. Arabic (200 million)
7. Bengali (185 million)
8. Russian (160 million)

It's true English is the internet language...
Unfortunately, probably the portuguese community of mud
players would locate in those 110 million difference ;)
