NiMUD 5, "Robust Level 2" has been released and is available in the project area on sourceforge.net

See: http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/nimud

for a download page

In this version, NiMUD 5 has been through vigorous testing with enhancements to many features, bug fixes, additions of hireling scripts, builder scripts and other features that make NiMUD a unique and interesting experience. Great to build any genre, NiMUD's powerful set of features and editors provide a well rounded mud administration experience for RP or hack and slash.

I'm always looking for different idea's, different ways of doing things, and just generally looking around and learning. So it was with great interest this post and thought, hmmm, what do we have here.

After some disheartening looking I found that not much of anything to view anyways. While this in itself may not be much, some admin prefer to work on code, some web, and some both. I like to at least read about what I'm interested in even if I can't look, touch, or play with it.

The link, as stated goes directly to a source forge page that gives even less information than this post did.

NiMUD: Shared Adventure Game / Brought to you by Locke - an advanced multi-user gaming server covering multiple genres, without genre-specific features. It\'s an out-of-the-box MU with an ascii graphical language. Project started in 1993.

There is a donate link at the top of that post, which I did not pass along on purpose, and then going into the forums. The forums has one link that points to a 404 web site. That link, if drove backwards till you get something that works. Actually takes you the setup page, or what appears to be I didn't dig to deep, of this site.

I don't mean to be rude or intolerable but I have to point out that if you want me to "check out" your latest build release can you do those of us looking a favor.

What did you build it off of? MOO, Diku? Merc, or something else that you wrote. Does it have any default options, say classes, spells, worlds, anything?

Thanks

SD

I just wanted to say that as an avid (and often) user (and supporter) of Sourceforge that the donation links are standard on the project pages.

I applaud the OP on utilizing the features there, and on sharing their work with us all.

SCAdmin, obviously you haven't been to SourceForge before; you need to focus on what you are downloading rather than the buggy Sourceforge site. Had you downloaded the software, and read the README documentation contained therein, you may have been further enlightened.

a.) I doubt anyone who uses the internet commonly has never been to sourceforge, I'd wager nearly 10% of the software people download is from that site.

b.) Sourceforge is not by any stretch of the imagination what I'd consider to be a buggy site

Drizzt the Bully:

Maybe you should let SCAdmin defend himself, instead of sticking words in his mouth that are obviously not his own. I see you're keeping to your reputation of being a third wheel.

I'm fairly sure those words came from my mouth. I am equally
sure I didn't quote him or make them look like they were his
words. Also I think it's cute that you call me a bully and
then in the next breath ask me to stop defending someone.
Maybe you need to get your head out of your ass and learn that
bully and defender aren't interchangeable and that me not
considering Sourceforge to be buggy doesn't make me either one
of the two, let alone both. Also being a third wheel would
mean I just sort of tag along which well doesn't really
describe me at all. Most people's issues with me stem from me
being too outspoken, which is about the opposite of a third
wheel which just tags along without doing and/or contributing
much.

Do you mean a fifth wheel? I find a third (and, indeed, a fourth) wheel is quite useful in many situations.

I find a fifth wheel extremely useful as well. It's pretty hard to steer a car without it! ;)

I hope you're not implying that Drizzt is the mechanism by which the overall direction of TMC is determined! :-o

While even I wouldn't go that far that's probably less of a
stretch than than Locke's claim that I just sort of uselessly
tag along without ever speaking or doing much of anything.

i downloaded this codebase purely out of curiosity, some of the stuff looked interesting, the mud compiled fine, but it would not boot up, due to issues with database.db, on checking the file was blank, replacing with database.db.bak, the mud refused to boot.

not wishing to work out the problem i promptly deleted the code... Just wondering if anyone else had similar issues?
