First, I'll just give a summary of what I want, then get into details afterwards.
1. A roleplay-centric MU*. 2. Plenty of players who are neither illiterate nor literary snobs. 3. Probably a medieval fantasy theme with more medieval than fantasy. If that doesn't make sense, I'll clarify below. 4. Level-less and classless 5. Customizable occupations, or at least a LOT of variety.
Further explanation:
1) When I say roleplay-centric, I mean that the main goal of the MU should be to get together with other people and play out a scene or two. Scripted skills have their place, but if I use them, I want it to be for a good reason, and if I get new ones, I'd rather it be from roleplayed training, rather than sitting on my butt, watching automated text.
2) I'm what I guess I would call a "conversational" roleplayer. I enjoy my paragraphs as well as the next person, but I also know that, depending on the circumstances, roleplay may require shorter posts for the sake of pace or humor. I am not the sort of player who insists long, elaborate descriptions of a single sword parry. I'll humor a player who does, though I may roll my eyes a little.
3) Theme... I'm not so sure on. I have a lot of different interests but lately I've been reading a series of books by Gerald Morris which center on the tales of King Arthur's knights. While there are magical and fantastical elements in the books, it still feels very ... earthy, if that makes sense. I can't really point out specific characteristics, but rather the overall feel. The best description I can come up with is "ordinary." I don't mind characters being talented or having an affinity towards magic, I guess, but if I run into a girl with blue skin and glowing white eyes riding on a magical panda bear, I want it to be rather unique experience that changes my character's perception of the world, rather than just one more crazy person wandering the roads of The Fair Kingdom.
4) I think this is self-explanatory. I generally choose skills that are somewhat related to each other anyway, but if I want my knight errant (or lowly farm-hand) to know something about the art of a troubadour then, by golly, I should be able to do it.
5) This one might be a little tricky, though I'm not so set on it if I have access to the sorts of things I want to do. My main goal is interacting with other people. Particularly in ways other than combat. I don't mind combat taking place, mind you, in fact I'd rather it happen sometimes than not at all. But really I'd rather be a squire or a healer or a servant or something.
This last requirement also means that people in these sorts of occupations actually get some attention. I don't mean fame or glory or anything. I just don't want to walk in as a servant only to get ignored by half the player-base because my character is incapable of helping them augment their own self-importance.
<_<
Yeah I think I'm done now.

Crap. I forgot one other thing. Death. I am not particularly fond of dying, but at the same time I find it a little jarring when my character dies, only to wake up at some random shrine, wearing nothing but his knickers. I guess what I want is for death to be permanent, but difficult to achieve under normal circumstances.

I gave a couple of suggestions to someone else on this very forum just four days before your post, and they requested pretty much the same features as you. See here.

Depths of Chaos was created in part, as an alternative offered to the serious roleplayer who enjoys the mechanics of hack and slash but seeks also, the freedom and creative storytelling that MUSH's provide. While based heavily in the mechanics of D&D, Depths of Chaos is an all original world, with no stock areas, and some intricately planned unique features.
We offer you Ascentia, a world created by a small, but dedicated staff who imagined a MUD that delved into new levels of realism while maintaining an engaging fantasy to lose yourself in. Advancement on Depths of Chaos is almost entirely through roleplay, meaning, says, saytos, emotes etc, all grant experience, while hack and slash elements exist in game, advancing in that manner will be slow and tedious and is meant as a way to forward your character when roleplay is unavailable. Learning skills is done through teachers and other characters in game and each and every spell and skill is potentially available to every character, so long as stat requirements are met. That does not mean you are able to obtain every single spell and skill, what it means is, with proper planning and stat distribution you can pick and choose from a wide variety of skills and spells, ones that suit -your- particular game play style and will make your character entirely unique from others in game.
A player can choose to create an adventurer from a variety of races, while developing said character through a classless, levelless system, delving deeply into the rich environment of Ascentia. Become a Dwarven miner bent on hording the riches you tirelessly pull from the mountains. Slip into the shadows as a Drow, serving his Matron's House with a brutal loyalty. Perhaps a more peaceful existence as a tavern owner is more to your liking, tempting the residence with ale and local fare to line your pockets with coins. Or, if political clout is more your thing, choose a path of power and luxury by laying claim to a nobility title and thusly able to shape the laws, own the lands and have legal access to the highly restricted use of magic. Is the wild and adventurous life of a criminal more to your tastes? The City of Delmarii Bastion is crying out for some brazen opportunists armed with entrepreneurial thinking.
Death on Depths of Chaos is a very real thing. Falling to a mob, is considered a defeat, while dying to a player character is an IC death and coming back from such an state should be considered a staggering and shocking event to say the least. A player will get one free return from the River of Souls, after that, all returns from the River is on a case by case basis and requires heavy roleplay influence to occur.
Depths of Chaos presents an extended crafting system, offered player housing and businesses, and an environment that encourages interaction with your surroundings. Specialty races will be offered by application only, and granted to those who show a firm understanding of the mythos of the game and the rules that govern it. We have a small but quickly growing player base, and roleplay has been occurring daily since our opening January 1. There is in place, a large, global plot line in development, already affecting the characters that exist in game, plus a newly developing smaller plot that will help cement certain existing characters into new and interesting roles.
I hope you take a peek at us, we have several roleplay opportunites available for both the casual and dedicated roleplayer, and would welcome new story telling skills to our world.
Thank you,
Tempest, DoC Implementer

Please, learn how, to use, commas, when writing, English, and apostrophes as, well. It amuses me to consistently see those games that blow the "serious roleplaying" trumpet so loudly often seem to be staffed by people who either can't write correctly or don't bother. What does "serious roleplaying" mean if it doesn't involve respecting language?

Probably not a native English speaker. Get off your high horse, we all know what he meant. Thanks for wasting a post letting us all know how perfect you are at grammar and at how other people have weaknesses.
Troll much Mr. Perfect English Teacher?
Newsflash, this is the internet. Not every post is created to past your term paper A+ criteria, to be graded, by you, so just, deal with, commas, because it's' not, the end, of the world.

lol, I have already gone into rehab for my comma addiction, and believe me, I have tried, but..in the end, the commas always sneak back in!
Btw, Depths of Chaos, will never stand over you, poking at your writing skills while you are roleplaying. We are here to have fun, and while I do adore my commas, I also can forgive less than perfect punctuation and grammar in roleplay, after all it is all for fun.
So, feel free to take a look at Depths of Chaos, if you are looking for interesting and dramatic roleplay, and please forgive the commas, they mean no harm.

You should check out Armageddon Mud. It's mandatory to roleplay and while it's neither a MU nor medieval, you will not find a more intensive environment.
Their emote system is amazing, you think, you feel and the use of OOC is what I would say based solely on necessity. You're in character from the moment that Mantis Head comes into view.
Tell them ShaLeah sent ya.

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Barring the fact that this thread is quite old, shouldn't this post have been in the Advertising for Players forum?
