I have recently started a Paradox mud...Not yet open to the public... And there are quite a few areas in the code that are classified as "Unlinked"...
Can anyone tell me how to "link" these areas so that there are useable?

Umm.. Linking them to existing areas would make them useable. Then just change the aedit and remove the unlinked.

Have you acted as a builder or otherwise any sort of immortal position on the codebase you are using? If not, I would highly recommend doing so for a number of months to get the feel for the codebase first, and learn from those experienced in the codebase, before trying to venture out on your own.
While it might take more time that way, you'll be far better for it.

I know nothing about that codebase, otherwise I'd offer help, but since I don't, that's the best I could do :p

Step one.
Find a good begining room in the area that is unlinked, and remember the vnum.
Step two.
Find a good room in the world map, or another area that you would like to link your unlinked area to, and remember the vnum.
Step three.
Go to the vnum from step one. Redit that vnum. Add an exit/portal/what ever to the vnum in step two.
Step four.
Asave Areas.
Step five.
Aedit the area in step one, remove from what ever field the unlinked is in.
Step six.
Repeat all steps for each additional "unlinked" area.
Step seven.
Wow, all the areas are linked now.

Agreed. There's an increasing lack of good manners on these forums. This forum in particular is called the "Beginner MUD Administration Forum", the keyword being "beginner". If the posters here already knew how to run, build, and code a MUD, they wouldn't need to post here.

Well, in my opinion, some people don't need to be running muds. Espically if they don't know how to code OR build. Plus this is the THIRD Paradox code on the same server. And since The original poster has an imm on both the other paradox muds on that server, it would make sense for him to ask those people, before posting a semi-stupid/common sense question.

Thats really quite belligerant. Simply because -You- dont think someone should run a mud because they are not familiar with administrative duties is absurd. That would be like a person who opens a small business, but has never had one before that. They are going to need help, definitely, and ask for it from people they see as more experienced and knowledgeable. What would you do if that was you, and you asked another business man who was in the game for a while a question. His response is to look at you like your 2, speak in "Step 1.... Step 2......, Wow! Was that hard hun? Was it? Maybe if you had the 10 years of experience being a VP of a company you would have known that!" Yah ok.. brilliant. How is it that everyone is loosing their minds these days? -Syn

Luckily for new admins and unluckily for you, anyone is free to start a mud, and there ain't nothing you can do about it. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

"Well, in my opinion, some people don't need to be running muds."
I used to be like you. Now I feel that anyone who runs a MUD is at least keeping the hobby alive and exposing new folks to it as well. If the MUD is good, it will thrive and get its own community. If it doesn't survive, some of the people who played it are likely to go look for a new place to play, strengthening those MUDs.
Please don't post to the Beginner Mud Administrators Forum, if you're just going to denigrate beginner Mud administrators.
