Hi there,
I'm just wondering if the authors of any of the following areas gave permission for Dylan Shadowlocke to redistribute your area to anyone who gives him a mandatory donation. Here is the list of areas he's offering, and c&p'd straight from the Smaug Mailing List email:
Before Christ, Blasted Lands, Blayne's Cloud Fortress, Citadel of Insanity, Abatoir Asylum, Kontaur, Mithril Hall, Morgul Vale, The Tree of Life, Shadowport, Scourge of Time, Seth's Fortress, Shattered Lands, Ocean Keep, Coral Depths, The Island of Minos, The Tower of Despair, Cathedral of Light, Transylvania, Treetops/Canopy, and many more.
Now maybe I'm just being a newbie, and have yet to learn that the SML is full of hacks, twinks and scammers, but I'd still like a little reassurance that this sort of crap is at least not applauded, even if it's not publically denounced.
Maybe I'm just a dreamer, a frickin cloud pilot. Insane. I dunno.
Silrathi, the jaded.

Shattered Lands?
No way in hell that he has permission to do that.

Sounds like someone begging for a lawsuit. I'll let Thoric know and see what he says. I do beleive Coral Depths was written by Brittany for RoD. I have an original copy she gave us when she left ROD, and worked on Aota.. but I am quite sure she would not have ever consented to it being sold.
Regards, Dale.

I'm sure that Thoric would have access to the original post on the SML, but for convienience sake I'll paste the follow-up email we recieved when we expressed interest in the original post:
-----Original Message----- From: Dylan Shadowlocke [mailto:dylan_shadowlocke@hotmail.com] Sent: Saturday, August 23, 2003 3:11 PM To: [NO SPAM] Subject: SMAUG AREA REQUEST
Thank you for your interest in the areas i mentioned, I must say there has been a high volume of emails for these areas, and they are the most highly sought after area files in the mudding community. Now, first off I'd like to say that i have permission to use all of the areas, so I can therefore grant permission to those who are interested. Unfortunately I'm not able to give these areas out at no cost.
In order for you to aquire these areas, I am requesting a donation, whatever you feel you can afford, in order to assist me in funding my new hosting company for mud accounts. Along with these areas I will also offer you a free account on my servers, when they go online. If you have any inquiries about these areas or wish to view them, I will allow you to screen them at a set date and time on my current server.
Thank you for submitting your request, I look forward to hosting for you in the future.
Sincerely yours, Dylan Shadowlocke

I did some formatting to properly use the space, and removed my email address, but otherwise the content is unchanged. Hope someone can take a bite out of this guy.

I can assure you that there is no way that this guy has permission to distribute (let alone sell) some of those areas.
Some are from the RoD areas that were stolen back around 1996 (btw... receiving stolen property is illegal).
If you want SMAUG areas, I suggest checking out the SMAUG Area Exchange.
