1. Why is every mud down? Tue Aug 20, 2002 [11:08 AM]

The list that is maintained by mudconnector doesn't have any muds that are online. Is anyone else experiencing this as well? Is there another source for muds besides mudconnector? I can't even find one that works! They all timeout. Ok, I did find one, but it had banned some major ISPs... *sigh* =)

The claim that all 1700+ muds on listed on Mud Connector are offline is rather difficult to believe.

In fact, it is not true - I've just connected to one to make absolutely certain.

I think the fault is rather more likely to lie with you than with the muds (or with Mud Connector).

Also if you're behind a proxy server then it might not be resolving the names properly. Search the web for online dnlookup and get the ip #'s to use.

I think I know where this person is coming from. When the connect link is clicked, a new window pops up with an error (for me at least, I am not sure if it is 100% of the time). I just look for the MUD addy on the site and paste it into my client.

Actually, at last check about 85% of the list was reachable by our spider, that was last night (it runs every night).

I believe your problem was due to Microsoft IE not knowing how to handle script-issued redirection to a telnet url. Older versions of MSIE had no problem, but thats no surprise *sigh* - anyway, this was recently fixed.

If you are having problems finding a mud that you can connect to on here, I'd suggest checking http://www.kyndig.com
The folx at Kyndig have a java connect option and they also run a spider on their listing.
If you can't connect to a mud at all however, a different listing isn't going to do you any good. I'd suggest checking the things that the other responses to your message listed: check for updates to your version of your web browser, check your proxy if you're behind one, check your dns resolving if you aren't directly connected to the internet; you might have to use the actual IP address #'s.

If none of those work, then try a different listing, like the one at kyndig.com.
