I have sent a couple E-Mails to one of the MUDs I am hosting. I have asked politely that they follow the DIKU License in regards to Credits in the opening screen and such.
Am I asking too much to have a MUD I am hosting follow this or should I leave alone and let them just do it.
My personal opinion is that they need to follow the Licenses.
Just wondering if I am asking too much or if I really have a right to ask this. I think I know the answer but....

You can always change your hosting rules to include: "You must honor any and all licenses that are connected to the use of any particular codebase you use. If you don't, your account will be deleted." And then let the hostees know about it.
Sometimes you have to play it hard. I hosted a guy who was very polite and agreeable, but never did what I told him, like "don't start that mud without fixing it, it uses over 150 MB RAM.". After several warnings, I threw him out.

I'd say not the muds, but you'd be in violation of the diku license, you run the violating software after all.

So that would mean I could put up a mud on something like inetsolve or wolfpaw, put no credits to the mud and they will get in trouble, not me?
Its the mud owners responsibility, not the host surely?
Or do they have the 'we take no responsibility' disclaimer...

The correct way to deal with license violations would surely be contacting the server hosting the mud. So yes, one would contact wolfpaw, asuming wolfpaw let their clients sign a contract not to run illegally used software, and has the means to take care of the issue. Contacting the mud in question would be an option as well, and likely a nicer way to deal with the situation. But if I host my webpage on wolfpaw containing pornographic material of 10 years old girls, it's their problem, not mine, since the material is on their server, and on their harddisc (not mine).

Ofcourse I'd get trouble myself as well in such situation, I won't deny that, but the host has responsibilities as well, that's what I'm trying to say.

If I hosted people, I would expect them to follow the licenses. I've seen many hosting companies in the past say that whetherh their clients follow the license or not is out of their control. However, you're the host and it's bothering you, so I would tell them they need to follow the license or they can host elsewhere.
They way I look at it, is if someone is getting hosting from another site, whether it be free or paid, commerically or on your best friend's computer, the host has the right to request things of their clients. If they wanted an imp level position, they should have the right to it. If they want the license followed, they have the right to request that. If the client is uncomfortable with it, they can go elsewhere. I'm hardnosed over that though.
