Ok, these muds are NOT giving credits to Diku, Merc or GodWars which they are based upon. I have proof of the code that these MUDS are based upon, as i have an early version, and the MUD the spawned them. Amaranth was ran until about 2004 and gave the credits where these do not. Night Asunder (which is the codebase that the ProjectFiction MUDS are based upon, and the ProjectTwilight muds before those) does, also but these so called oWOD muds do not!
I have reported a listing innacuracy in regards to this, if anyone wants proof that these muds ARE infact based upon godwars, i can supply the code that these are based upon.

I'm pretty sure it's an abandoned project.

help credits CREDITS
Merc by Fury, Hatchet and Kahn. Changes for Diku by Sterfedlt, Nyboe, Madsen, Seirfert and Hammer. Changes for GodWars by Richard Woolcock (KaVir). Changes for Amaranth by Shane Potts. Changes for TwilightMU* by Cone and Lumikant. Changes for ASMUD by Kurt.
There is actually credit given to Merc, Diku, GodWars, Amaranth, the coders who changed altered the codebase for TwilightMU*, and then the coder who provided the changes for ASMUD. However it is listed in a "help credits" file rather than the motd. Is this not allowed? I would gladly put the credits into the motd instead. We're a small, mostly personal project with a small group of friends that play (though of course others are welcome), but we would still like to be in accordance with the rules when giving credit where credit is due.

Upon reading the licenses carefully and browsing the boards here, I have moved the credits from a helpfile (though I'll leave the helpfile in place, too) to the MOTD so that they are presented each time a player logs in before he has the chance to access the game world. This was done for both The Anarch State and The Shadow Crusades, which are the games I have control of. The MUD listed as "Project Fiction" is a long abandoned project that no longer exists. I'm not sure how to delete the listing.
My apologies for having not done this already. That'll teach me to read the code licenses more carefully (or at all). Thanks for bringing it to my attention Macademus. I really didn't intend not to give credit, and there was always a helpfile in place with a possibly excessive list of names, but it wasn't what was required of the license. All fixed up.

OP: Considering that someone from one of the MUDs not only asked for clarification but also moved the credits to their MOTD the same day you "reported" them, doesn't it seem like just sending these games an e-mail first might have been all that was needed? I've got no horse in this race; I couldn't be paid to play WoD. However, even as an outsider it seems kind of silly (and pretty little pompous) to assume malfeasance and play the whistle-blower when faced with what may be nothing more than misunderstanding.

Well in the past when i mentioned this, the project twilight muds ignored it. Good to see the new owners of this MUD actually follow licenses. If i had known that the immortals of the mud still connected i wouldve emailed them directly.

Just checked the muds.. credits are not on the greeting...
Not sure if this follows the Diku/Merc License, but i do know that it doesnt follow the GodWars license, as it states that GodWars was created by KaVir needs to be on Greeting (will have to re-read to make sure im right about this..

It might seem that way, but from experience I can tell you that going public is sometimes more effective. Private emails/requests are frequently ignored, and if you later take it public the mud owner is forced to either justify their earlier decision not to fix the issue, or swallow their pride and publically backpeddle on their stance.
By making it public from the start the owner's hand is forced, and they can actually use it to their advantage. Take a look at this thread for example - Rosiel1981 now has a front-page TMC thread which discusses her two muds, and what impression does the prospective player receive? A mud owner who's active, attentive, apologises when they're wrong, and immediately attempts to fix problems. I wonder how many new players this thread brings in...

Anywhere in the login sequence is fine, however there does need to be a 'godwars' help file.

Got it. I've added in a "help godwars" and referenced it to the basic help summary that pops up when you just type "help," so it's not just lost to the helpfile void without proper linkage. I wasn't sure what all I should add to the help file itself, so I took what details I could find on Wikipedia about GodWars and linked to http://www.godwars2.org/gw_history.php at the bottom of the full in-game entry for further reading. I hope that works, and if it doesn't I'll be checking back in this thread tomorrow morning. Let me know if I need to make corrections.

help godwars should display the following: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- God Wars was created by Richard Woolcock, aka KaVir. Thanks also go to the following people (in order of help given):
...Zarkas, for teaching me how to mud properly. ...Malice, for getting me into the implementor and coder side of things. ...Haus, for inspiring me to create a mud without levels. ...ShadoWeaver, for providing me with my first (and free) site. ...Rotain, for helping with the code - and the debugging. ...Calamar, for adding some nifty code that I still don't understand. ...Stephen from ACK mud, for coding advise and suggestions. ...Monochrome BBS, for supplying me with a decent free site. ...Lucifur, for providing a USA mirror site for the USA players. ...Shaddai, for a mirror site, code snippets and bug reports. ...Arioch, for comments, suggestions, and help running the mud. ...Tepic, for writing the web pages, and helping run the mud. ...Pandora, for trying to bring some semblance of order to the mud. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

you know its good to see that theres people around still wanting to give credit where credit is due and follow license requirements.
Shame the previous owners of the codebase you are running refused to even so much as reply to any email i sent them...
